4Pi microscopy in biomedicine: a comprehensive bibliometric assessment of its evolution and impact

Abstract

This paper proposes a complete bibliometric and text mining analysis of 4Pi microscopy research, from its outset in 1992 to 2023. The study of data retrieved from Scopus through targeted query templates aims at providing a comprehensive insight into the publication trends, citation patterns, and thematic evolution of 4Pi microscopy. This study, using sophisticated analytical software such as Bibliometrix, Biblioshiny, and VOSviewer, not only quantifies the growth and influence of 4Pi microscopy in various scientific disciplines but also qualitatively analyses the emergence of research themes, methods, and collaborative networks within the field. The results emphasize the multidisciplinary character of 4Pi microscopy, its important impact on technological progress and life sciences as well as its expanding role in solving complex research problems. The analysis showed a dynamic research field with constant growth in the number of publications, diversification of research applications, and the shift in the focus areas over time. The trajectory of 4Pi microscopy research is mapped by this study and as a result valuable insights are provided for academics, policymakers and practitioners, thus creating a platform for future research directions and interdisciplinary collaborations to realize the full potential of 4Pi microscopy in scientific discovery and innovation.
