The sources of non-anthropogenic magnetic susceptibility can be: 1) the lithology of the parent material (bedrock), producing sand-sized magnetite and clay-sized maghemite, 2) the microbial and bacterial activities that bring initial dissolution of non-magnetic iron oxides and a subsequent production of secondary ferrimagnetic minerals, causing magnetic susceptibility increase in top soils [1].
