Abstract: When the investors decide to make a foreign direct investment, they take various factors into consideration such as political risk. In the study that covers the years 2002-2012 and data from 91 countries, the impact of political risk on foreign direct investment has been demonstrated by conducting panel data analysis. Political risk and control variables have been used. An increase in "political stability and absence of violence" and "management effectiveness" has reduced the foreign direct investment. “…The present paper presents an extension of the model suggested by Erkekoglu and Kilicarslan (2016), which included six political variables, namely VA, PV, GE, RQ, RL and CC as proxies for governance. In addition, the model takes into consideration the models proposed by Anwar and Afza (2014), Epaphra and Massawe (2017) and Sabir et al (2019), as well as data availability and the literature review on FDI determinants, and, thus, the initial model used in the present study is expressed as following For the CIVETS countries, Turkey was the largest recipient until 2009, and Indonesia ranked first from 2009 to 2015 and from 2017 to 2019, which can be associated to increased foreign investors' interest towards other Asian economies (Figure 2).…”

“…Ali, Fiess, and MacDonald (2010) observed that institutions are robust predictors of FDI and that property rights security is the most important aspect of these institutions in determining FDI inflows. Erkekoglu and Kilicarslan (2016) demonstrated that the impact of political risk on foreign direct investment has demonstrated that an increase in political stability and absence of violence and management effectiveness has reduced foreign direct investment. Furthermore, some previous attempts have studied the role of risk perception of FDI in developing and emerging economies.…”
