62.4: Development of Zigzag Thin‐Film‐Transistor‐Driven OCB for Field‐Sequential‐Color LCDs with High Aperture Ratio

Abstract: For the first time, we have developed a field‐sequential 3.5″ VGA zigzag TFT‐driven OCB prototype that the splay‐to‐bend transition of the OCB LC was initiated by zigzag TFTs to enable a design of 64.5%‐aperture ratio. We also optimize the light transmittance through the OCB LC medium to obtain a total panel transmittance of 15.2 % by a novel driving scheme. The prototype shows a wide color gamut of 125 % NTSC by using scanning LED backlights.
