“…As for athletic competence, the participants were asked to report on their experiences with participation in competitive sports on behalf of their school before and after entry to junior high school and their self-perceived talent for sports. Perceived talent for sports and athletic competence has been shown to be correlated with actual physical fitness and physical activity participation (40,41), and thus it was used to represent the level of physical fitness that was not measured in the dataset.
