Abstract:Ultrasonic surface waves (SAWs) provide a sensitive means to nondestructively detect surface cracks in structures. When continuously receiving transmitted SAWs while the structure is fatigue tested, the received ultrasonic waves are modulated (due to the changing strain between the sensors or due to the opening and closing behavior of a crack that is possibly present between the sensors). The measurement of the nonlinear modulation character during the fatigue tests leads to an unambiguous interpretation of th… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
