Abstract:On April 5, 1967, as this first volume of the Annual Review of Genetics was being prepared for publication, H. J. Muller died. The Editorial Com mittee had hoped to include a chapter written by him, but his other commit ments and failing health made this impossible. An appreciation of Dr. Muller and his work, written by G.
