Abstract: The article analyzes the influence of Germany and France on the course of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022. The war changed the perception of the elites and societies of these countries about Russia and Ukraine. Germany and France proved to be unprepared for successful preventive diplomacy. It was difficult to make decisions about providing aid to Ukraine.
