Abstract

Geographical characteristics of second home tourism in Sloveniaa regional overviewResiding in second homes is one of the most popular forms of recreation in Slovenia's wide range of leisure activities. The first geographical studies on the topic of second homes were conducted in the late 1960s, with many published also in the 1980s and over the last decade, making this phenomenon one of the longest continuing research fields within geography in Slovenia. Despite the fact that the locations of second homes are generally dispersed, as they can be found in every municipality in the country, there are notable differences between the Alpine, Dinaric, Pannonian and Mediterranean regions of Slovenia. The paper examines the geographical characteristics of second home tourism in Slovenia and observes this phenomenon according to the mentioned regional types.
