Abstract: Analysis of extracts from two woad species (Isatis tinctoria and Isatis indigotica) and Polygonum tinctorium revealed that only one indigo precursor (indican) was present in Polygonum, but two precursors were found in Isatis spp. This was done using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), coupled to an evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD). In Isatis spp., the indigo precursors indican and a fraction representing isatan B were identified. The proportion of indican and isatan B was different betwe… Show more

“…The indican results obtained herein were close to the previous studies (Kokubun et al 1998;Gilbert et al 2004;Zou and Koh 2007;Rocha et al 2011;Campeol et al 2006;Angelini et al 2007). Indirubin results were similar or lower than those in the previous studies (Liau et al 2007;Gilbert et al 2004;Zou and Koh 2007;Chen et al 2011).…”

“…Indirubin results were similar or lower than those in the previous studies (Liau et al 2007;Gilbert et al 2004;Zou and Koh 2007;Chen et al 2011). Indigo content (2.80 mg/ g) was previously reported by our research group (Karaman et al 2016).…”

“…The indican content was spectrophotometrically measured following modifications of the method reported elsewhere (Angelini et al, 2004;Gilbert et al, 2004). In brief, leaf disks (100 mg) from fully expanded secondary leaves were placed in 500 μL of distilled water at 100°C for 10 min.…”
