Abstract: This paper aims to point-out the effects of applying different live feed diets to the long-snouted seahorse (Hippocampus guttulatus Cuvier, 1829) of the Romanian Black Sea coast. The response of seahorses to Brachionus plicatilis-based, Artemia salina-based and combined diet is analysed, from the development, ethologic and biochemical point of view. Three experimental tanks were set in laboratory conditions, for a 10 day period. The different batches of seahorses collected from the natural environment were pla… Show more

“…The extraction of OCPs and PCBs from biota samples was done with 30 ml acetone/hexane (1:1, v:v), in microwave extraction system Start E Milestone for 30 min at 120 o C. Further processing of the samples followed the steps: concentration of the extracts to rotary evaporator, clean-up on florisil, respectively, alumina/silica column and concentration of the samples using the Kuderna-Denish concentrator and nitrogen flow. The analytical determination of the OCPs and PCBs [10,11] content was made by the gas-chromatographic method with a Perkin Elmer gas chromatograph CLARUS 500, equipped with electron capture detector. The analyzed compounds were HCB, lindane, heptachlor, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, p,p′-DDE (dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene), p,p′-DDD (dichlorodiphenyldichloroethane) and p,p′-DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane), PCB 28, PCB 52, PCB 101, PCB 138, PCB 118, PCB 153 and PCB 180.…”
