Abstract: The effect of various water temperatures on growth and survival rate of juvenile sea cucumbers (Holothuria tubulosa) had been investigated in this research. Average weight of 20.48±2.33 g of juvenile sea cucumbers were collected from the coastal zones of Aegean Sea by scuba diving. After the adaptation period, juveniles were placed into glass aquaria which have 4 different sea water temperatures and researched for 45 days under laboratory conditions. Sea water temperatures of trial groups were selected among t… Show more

“…As expected, total protease activity changed with the water temperature in this study. It is reported that metabolism rate increased as the temperature raised and total protease enzyme activity increased at temperatures where the growth was optimum (Günay, Emiroğlu, Tolon, Özden, & Saygi, 2015). The lowest concentration levels belonged to winter which has the coldest water temperature.…”

“…Sicuro and Levine (2011), reported that H. tubulosa might be one of the potential aquaculture species in the Mediterranean Sea. Recent studies on adaptation of H. tubulosa to aquaculture reported successful results (Günay et al, 2015;Tolon et al 2015). However, studies on the hatching stages are lacking in the literature.…”

“…Nonetheless, reproduction in both species occurs mainly in warmer months, from May to September (Despalotovic et al 2004;Aydın 2008;Aydın & Erkan 2015;Dereli et al 2016). In this study, water temperature of sampling areas can reach 25 o C during the reproduction period (TSMS 2020), and this may accelerate changes in biochemical and physiological characteristics of the species as a result of increasing food availability and maturity of sea cucumbers (Coulon & Jangoux 1993;Kazanidis 2010;Günay et al 2015;Künili & Colakoglu 2019). Therefore, the effect of reproduction on collagen yields in both species was determined by performing sampling until sufficient numbers of both immature and mature specimens in different length frequencies were obtained, and biochemical changes along with collagen yields could be compared regardless of temperature (Figs 5,6,7b).…”
