Abstract:Isatin (1H-indole-2,3-dione) and its derivatives represent an important class of heterocyclic compounds that can be used as precursors for drug production. Erdmann1 and Laurent2 first discovered isatin in 1840 as an oxidation product of indigo dye for nitric acid and chromic acid. Isatin is one of the most important heterocyclic compounds.
