Abstract: Life history and reproductive parameters of the generalist predatory mite Euseius (Amblyseius) finlandicus (Oudemans) were studied in the laboratory at 25 +/- 1 degrees C, with a 16L:8D photoperiod and 60 +/- 15% RH, to investigate its response to different food sources: an eriophyid mite Aceria sp., tulip pollen Tulipa gesnerana L., and two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae Koch. Total developmental time of the immature stages was the shortest on eriophyid mites, followed by pollen, and then spider mite… Show more

“…Euseius finlandicus overall development time on S. garmani was equal to that reported by Kropczynska ( 1970 ) for the predator fed on P. ulmi . Moreover, the number of eggs laid by E. finlandicus females fed on S. garmani was greater than on any other spider mite or eriophyid mite species previously tested (Chant 1959 ; Kropczyńska 1970 ; Amano and Chant 1986 ; Kropczyńska et al 1988 ; Schausberger 1992 ; Abdallah et al 2001 ). Nevertheless, the longevity and fecundity of T. pyri females were higher on each tested spider mite species than in the case of E. finlandicus fed on the same food.…”

“…urticae were close to those reported by Kropczyńska ( 1970 ) or Schausberger ( 1992 ). In turn, Abdallah et al ( 2001 ) stated that overall immature stage duration of E. finlandicus feeding on larvae and protonymphs of Te. urticae was shorter than that in our study.…”

“…The range of environmental factors of the mentioned territories is optimal and promotes this species' spatial distribution and dominant position in the phytoseiid community. According to the previous data (Abdallah et al, 2001;Puchalska & Kozak, 2016) the species E. finlandicus is considered an important predator of phytophages in European gardens and vineyards.…”

“…Phytoseiid mites can also feed on plant sap [48], and in some groups mycophagy has evolved as a supplement to predation [49]. The phytoseiid Euseius finlandicus (Figure 1c) is one of the most significant predators of phytophagous mites worldwide and can also feed on pollen, fungal spores and hyphae, eggs and larvae of insects, honeydew and plant liquids [50]. Trophic relationships between plants, fungi and mites can therefore be highly complex.…”
