A 0.23 $\mu \text{W}$ , 96 mV Input Voltage DC–DC Converter for Body Sensor Nodes

Abstract: This paper presents an ultra-low power DC-DC converter to be embedded into body sensor nodes. The proposed DC-DC converter is used to step-up the voltage at the output of a micro-thermoelectric generator (µTEG) up to a usable supply voltage between 0.42V and 1.05V. Measurements have been conducted on ten available samples. The resulting mean value of the minimum input voltage is 96mV. At the minimum input voltage the power consumption is only 0.23µW. The operating temperature ranges from -40 to 100 °C. Index T… Show more

“…External gate biasing technique adopts a similar concept but through the aid of external peripherals [73]. Clock boosting techniques [74] as external gate control elements can be generated by level shifters [75], LC-oscillators [76][77][78], ringoscillators [64], multiphase-multi voltage level clock generator, or bootstrapping techniques. These techniques provide an improvement in the clock voltage swing of more than 3x of the input supply voltage, reducing conduction losses.…”

“…In order to further increase the output voltage, a two-stage Pelliconi's charge pump has been inserted ( Figure 5) [Veri et al, 2016;Pelliconi et al, 2001;Pasca et al, 2015]. It also provides an isolation of the output load from the input RF signal.…”

“…In order to provide an isolation between the output capacitance and the input RF source, a five‐stage Pelliconi's charge pump [ Pelliconi et al ., ; Pasca et al ., ], driven by a LC oscillator, has been interposed between the RF‐DC rectifier output and C L 1 || C L 2 . Its circuital model is depicted in Figure .…”
