peak of the received frequency response is far above the noise floor. This therefore, clarifies the possibility of implementing the proposed system for quasidistributed sensing in remote area.
CONCLUSIONA robust fiber optic sensor with enabling capability of eliminating flimsiness in earlier vibration sensor has been explored. The sensor used two coupled collimators which operation is based on simple intensity modulation. A frequency range between 0 and 180 Hz was successfully measured with sensitivity of 6.6 Hz per unit DC driving voltage and this could be further extended if more voltage is applied to the box. The range of frequency measured revealed the suitability of the proposed sensor for remote vibration monitoring in bridge, electrical power generator, and structures that exhibit low vibration within the range.
