A 3D learning tool for a hydroelectric unit

Abstract: This paper presents a new learning system for a hydroelectric unit of energy (HUE) by using desktop virtual reality (VR) techniques. The software offers the possibility to understand the relation between the physical structures of a UHE, through computer simulations, graphical outputs, and animations. Three learning courses are offered. Educative is the first course that allows familiarizes the student with the structure and with the constituent pieces of a HUE, as well its general and technical information. T… Show more

“…On the other hand, other VR applications aim to improve the comprehension of different concepts: the spatial comprehension of abstract concepts, complex three-dimensional graphics, production processes, manufacturing, operation processes, assembly, etc. [22,[34][35][36][37][38]. Finally, VR learning environments have also been related to serious games since approximately 20 years ago and, in this way, such environments enhance student motivation through a gamification procedure of the teaching-learning process [39].…”

“…In , a virtual‐lab relied on a HTML Web page for control education is presented to illustrate the dynamic behavior of an industrial boiler in a user‐friendly way. Diedro‐3D is an application that addresses the challenges that architecture students face when using descriptive geometry , giving students greater autonomy to study geometry. In , a project to develop, build up, and evaluate solutions for virtual mobility and e‐learning in biomedical engineering is presented.…”

“…The 3D visualization technology has been well researched for a few decades . The technology has also been applied to help improve student's interest and performance in learning . In medical education, anatomical models are often visualized in 3D in order to provide the students with a realistic sense of the body structures in 3D space .…”
