A Bibliographic Survey of the Activities and International Nature of Multiple Criteria Decision Making

Abstract: One of the fascinating things about multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) is the degree to which the contributions that have built the field have come from all over the world. In this paper the international nature of the authorships of the 1216 refereed journal articles published on MCDM between 1987 and 1992, and the journals in which they have appeared, is examined. Also, an analysis of the 217 books and 31 journal special issues that have been published on MCDM, and 143 conferences that have been held o… Show more

“…The 16 refereed MCDM journals were selected according to two criteria: (1) journals appeared frequently in the Multiple Criteria Decision Aid bibliography on the International society on MCDM website [13]; (2) the most relevant and top-rated MCDM journals listed by [14] and [15]. Each article collected in the dataset is stored in Microsoft Excel as one row with five fields: article title, author(s), journal name, year of publication, and abstract.…”

“…Clearly it does not make sense to choose a solution that is not Pareto-optimal. A large number of references for MOP are available in the literature [104,105,108].…”

“…Nevertheless, traditional combinatorial optimization considers a single objective to be optimized, while in many reallife applications decision makers have to deal with several, usually conflicting, objectives. The increasing interest to theory and methodology of multicriteria decision making (MCDM) over the last thirty years is witness of this fact (see for example Steuer et al (1996)). Surprisingly, the combination of both i.e.…”
