A bibliometric analysis of Community of Inquiry in online learning contexts over twenty-five years

Abstract: Since the outbreak of COVID-19, online learning has gained popularity among educators and learners, where Community of Inquiry (CoI) has caught researchers' attention. To bibliometrically analyze the framework of CoI over twenty-five years, we adopted both qualitative and quantitative research methods to examine the framework of CoI in online learning contexts. We concluded that teaching presence, social presence, cognitive presence, metacognition, and self-efficacy played important roles in the framework of C… Show more

“…This research provided a bibliographic review using a bibliometric method based on cluster mapping to visualize the research regarding the online education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis of cluster mapping of countries, authors, organizations, sources, and keywords can allow future scholars to have a significant reference (Yu & Li, 2022). Those countries, organizations, authors, and journals with the most publications are the most influential in this field (Çiçek Korkmaz & Altuntaş, 2022).…”

“…In general, CoI is tailored for the development of theories of engagement, and can model how learners interact and learn online [10,26]. Many researchers have adopted Garrison's research to identify factual evidence on the relationships that exist between teaching presence, social presence, and cognitive presence [14,[26][27][28]. These presences are related to the interaction and the learner's engagement in order to make sure that learning takes place [16].…”

“…In the future, researchers can also combine semi-structured interviews, observation, and machine learning to measure attitudes, interest, motivation, and academic achievements to obtain precise results. Other factors such as self-efficacy, satisfaction, technology acceptance model, teaching presence, social presence, and cognitive presence [41] can also be incorporated into the mobile learning platform-based learning and teaching.…”
