A bibliometric analysis of RNA methylation in diabetes mellitus and its complications from 2002 to 2022

Abstract: BackgroundRNA methylation has emerged as an active research field in diabetes mellitus (DM) and its complications, while few bibliometric analyses have been performed. We aimed to visualize the hotspots and trends using bibliometric analysis to provide a comprehensive and objective overview of the current search state in this field.MethodsThe articles and reviews regarding RNA methylation in DM and its complications were from the Web of Science Core Collection. A retrospective bibliometric analysis and science… Show more

“…R3, VOSviewer 1.6.18, and Microsoft Excel 2019 were used for the bibliometric analysis, visualization methods, and integration analysis ( 5 , 16 ). VOSviewer can extract key information from a wide range of publications, including lead authors, and analyze country and institution, keywords, scientific partnerships, citations, and co-citations ( 17 ). CiteSpace explores the current state of research, research hotspots, research frontiers, and development process of a scientific field by generating a series of visual knowledge maps that reveal the trends in the field ( 18 ).…”

“…As shown in Figure 5A, the 106 keywords were divided into eight clusters when the minimum number of documents per keyword was 100. The top 10 most frequent keywords were "Helicobacter pylori" (11,944), "gastric cancer" (3035), "gastritis" (1007), "inflammation" (697), "eradication" (646), "caga" (559), "peptic ulcer" (529), "epidemiology" (502), "children" (470), and "endoscopy" (458). The line between "Helicobacter pylori" and "gastric cancer" was the thickest, indicating that the relationship between H. pylori and gastric cancer had received the most attention in the past 20 years.…”

“…As an information visualization method, bibliometric analysis uses mathematical and statistical methods to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of the history of publications of a certain field 11,12 . By analyzing the information of numbers, citations, countries, journals, institutions, authors and keywords, bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the current research status qualitatively, and further explores the research hotspots and trends in a certain field.…”

“…Despite the abundance of bibliometric articles on diabetes and its complications, [4–6] the field of prediabetes research has yet to be comprehensively analyzed in this way. Our study fills this gap by using advanced bibliometric tools to systematically evaluate the last decade of prediabetes research.…”
