“…Importantly, our study showed that European orthodontic research was not evenly distributed, since only 9 countries were responsible for around 80% of the output. This trend is not limited to orthodontics, as it was also observed by bibliometric studies in prosthodontics, 26 endodontics 27,28 or in global dental research, 21,29,30 as well as other biomedical fields such as radiology, 31 cardiology, 32 urology, 33 pathology 34 or medico‐legal sciences 35 . As in our study, when adjusting for population size, small and Northern European nations (Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland) lead compared to larger and more populated countries (United Kingdom, Germany) 21,22,29,31‐34,36 …”

A retrospective observational study analysed the number and trends of publications in the IEJ and Journal of Endodontics ( JOE ) from 2009 to 2014 (Mishra et al, 2016). Ahmad et al (2019) undertook an analysis of the top 100 most cited randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta‐analyses within seven endodontic journals, including the IEJ .…”
