A Biophysical and Computational Study of Concanavalin A Immobilized Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

Abstract: Con A immobilized on ZnO nanoparticles showed minor changes in the structure of ZnO nanoparticles and in the conformational of native Con A. However, Con A immobilized ZnO nanoparticles interestingly, showed pH resistance and better hemagglutination activity as well as minor DNA damage to whole cell lymphocytes. Thus, this novel bioaffinity support has prospective clinical implications.

“…70 Hemagglutination or clustering of RBC is assessed by visual inspection or by dynamic light scattering. 68 These assays have been used to evaluate the hemagglutination capacity of NPs of chitosan, 68 gold, silver, 71 iron oxide, 70 zinc oxide, 72 and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (no hemagglutination). 70 These effects also seem to depend on the type, size, and surface moieties of the NPs.…”

“…Despite its enormous scope, one of nanotechnology's most significant benefits will be the development of innovative and successful medical treatments. Understanding the interactions of nanomaterials and biomolecules both in extracellular and inside the cells will open up new strategies for developing effective nanomedicines [9][10][11]. Nanomaterials are synthesized and modified accordingly nowadays for the gain of a variety of functions.…”
