A Bis(di‐n‐butyltin)–Quinone Derivative as a Simultaneous Chemo‐ and Bioactive Corrosion Inhibitor

Abstract: The bis(di-n-butyltin) derivative of 2,5-bis(2-hydroxyethylamino)-1,4-benzoquinone was synthesized and characterized by common spectroscopic techniques. In solution, discrete molecules with pentacoordinate tin atoms were observed, whereas the X-ray diffraction analysis of the solidstate structure revealed polymeric chains that were due to intermolecular Sn···O bonds. In vitro tests demonstrated that the tin compound displays bactericidal activity against a wide range of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Acute to… Show more

“…The chemical shifts were À91, À113 and À251 ppm for 1de1f, respectively, which are typical for diorganotin complexes carrying ONO ligands [14]. The previously reported derivative 1b gave a 119 Sn NMR signal at À129 ppm [10].…”

“…In accordance to the procedure previously described for compound 1b [10], compounds 1a, 1ce1f (Scheme 1) and 2ae2c (Scheme 2) were synthesized from 1,4-benzoquinone bis(aminoalcohols) L1eL3 and diorganotin oxides (R 2 Sn-O) n with R ¼ Me, nBu and Ph. The starting aminoalcohols used for the preparation of ligands L1eL3 were 2-aminoethanol (L1), ephedrine (L2) and 2-aminophenol (L3).…”

“…This restriction is reasonable, since the studied quinones are flat (linear) symmetric molecules, which is known from the literature data [24,[30][31][32]. This fact and the experimental results obtained from para-quinones [27] show that these compounds are adsorbed on the metal surface.…”

“…There are some experimental data available in the literature on the inhibition properties of the quinones [20][21][22][23][24]. Our previous measurements show that quinones have a corrosion inhibiting effect in neutral aqueous medium and that their protective effect is related with their oxidizing properties [25][26][27][28].…”
