A blockchain framework for smart mobility

Abstract: A blockchain framework is presented for addressing the privacy and security challenges associated with the Big Data in smart mobility. It is composed of individuals, companies, government and universities where all the participants collect, own, and control their data. Each participant shares their encrypted data to the blockchain network and can make information transactions with other participants as long as both party agrees to the transaction rules (smart contract) issued by the owner of the data. Data own… Show more

“…One of the main distinctive features of these applications from other ride-sharing networks like Uber is the decentralized authority. Another blockchain-based ITS application is the CarbonCount [18], which is developed to provide the calculation of individual carbon footprint based on analysis of personal mobility data to convince society to use cleaner transportation options and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.…”

“…In addition, collaboration in identifying, collecting, generating and using data across stakeholder groups is key to delivering sustainable urban development (Paskaleva et al , 2017). Blockchain technologies could enable decentralized payment services, keeping users in control of their data, as is currently being explored by the TravelSpirit Foundation (Lopez & Farooq, 2018) (it would be crucial, however, to control the immense energy demand of blockchain technologies and decarbonize its supply chain; Truby, 2018). Users could nonetheless choose to donate their data for purposes of public interest.…”

“…IoT-based road condition monitoring, environment monitoring, and surrounding monitoring can provide unprecedented information which can be used to predict future conditions to aid in the desired course of actions. Blockchain technology can provide a distributed, transparent, and immutable Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) network for effective, secured and privacy preserved management of the smart mobility ecosystem [ 153 , 154 , 155 , 156 ]. Technology for low carbon emissions, alternative fuels, electric vehicles and improved batteries can also aid in the protection of the environment and attaining sustainable development goals for better environment for a better quality of life (QoL).…”
