A call to action for an inclusive model of shared decision‐making in healthcare

Abstract

Faced with complex medical problems, users and their families need to make a range of decisions about their healthcare, treatment, and location of that treatment. This requires that they understand their illness, prognosis, and the advantages and disadvantages of treatment options. However, healthcare professionals may fail to communicate openly and implement shared decision-making (SDM) with users at the end of life (Higginbotham et al., 2021); users' cultural background influences their health decision-making (Searight & Gafford, 2005),
