A case-based decision theory based process model to aid product conceptual design

Abstract: In new product development, the rapid proposal of innovative solutions represents an important phase. This in turn relies on creative ideas, their evaluation, refinement and embodiment of worthwhile directions. This study aims to describe a CBDT based process model for product conceptual design that concentrates on rapidly generating innovations with the support of decision-making rationale. Case-based Decision Theory (CBDT), derived from case-based reasoning, is developed in this paper as a core method to aid… Show more

“…Considering the role of information ambiguity in product concept design, an intuition-based fuzzy group decision product concept design method was suggested. In 2019 [34], a CBDT-TRIZ model was established to help design engineers make informed decisions quickly, thus speeding up the design process. Another conceptual design approach based on conceptual knowledge modeling and eye-tracking data analysis was proposed in 2019 [35] to analyze the factors influencing the individuallevel transfer of engineering knowledge.…”

“…Zamani et al proposed a hybrid schedule generation scheme to the resource-constrained project scheduling problem, called the Polarized Adaptive Scheduling Scheme, which can operate in the spectrum between two poles, that is, to generate schemes through parallel and serial schedule [ 32 ]. In addition, there were innovative scheme generation methods based on the theory of innovative problem solving (TRIZ) [ 33 ], product design generation methods based on case-based decision theory [ 34 ], etc.…”

“…This kind of problem related to decision-making simultaneously involving multiple criteria is called multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem [1]. Since Zadeh put forward the theory of the fuzzy sets (FSs) in 1965 [2], MCDM based on FSs theory has been widely developed and applied to practical decision-making problems [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. Due to the inherent fuzziness of human preference information, a single membership degree of FSs cannot properly describe the fuzziness and uncertainty in the decision-making process.…”
