“…There are reported cases of acquired central hypoventilation syndrome caused by brainstem compression, tumours, central nervous system infections, cerebrovascular accidents, demyelination and trauma 6 . Two reported paediatric cases from trauma involved infants in their first year of life who sustained severe head injuries requiring intubation for a decreased level of consciousness 5,7 . Both children subsequently had abnormal cranial imaging with subarachnoid haemorrhage found on CT head, and difficulties weaning off ventilatory support with persistent hypercapnia and apnoea during sleep.…”
