A Case of Plasmodium falciparum Malaria in a Man 6 Months After Visiting a Malaria-Endemic Region

Abstract: Unlike other malaria-causing species of the genus Plasmodium, Plasmodium falciparum normally manifests symptoms of malaria within weeks of exposure. We report the unusual case of symptomatic malaria in a previously healthy individual 6 months after staying in an endemic region. In addition, potential causes for delayed presentation of P falciparum are reviewed.
