Abstract:Clinical and histological diagnosis of pure uterine lipomas are described and a possible involvement of fatty metaplasia of smooth muscle cells in the development of pure uterine lipomas is discussed.
“…Some theories include erroneous inclusion of fat cells during embryogenesis, migration of adipocytes via the uterine vessels, abnormal metaplasia or inclusion during surgery 5 6…”

“…Magnetic resonance is considered to be the best imaging method for diagnostic of lipoma, but it is not a part of standard diagnostic algorithm, so most reliable, precise and definitive diagnosis is obtained by histological examination 5 .…”
Although lipomas of the gastrointestinal tract are rare, this case clearly indicates that we should not prematurely and without histological confirmation of malignancy do more extensive resection for a suspected malignancy.
