A case of resistant multiple plantar warts cured with combined autologous platelet‐rich plasma injection and topical salicylic acid 30%

Abstract: Background Plantar warts are common benign cutaneous lesions affecting the plantar aspects of the feet; they are caused by infection of the keratinocytes by the human papillomavirus (HPV). The effective treatment of plantar warts is still a therapeutic challenge. Aim This study aimed to assess the possible clinical efficacy and safety of the combined intralesional autologous platelet‐rich plasma (PRP) injection with local application of salicylic acid 30% solution in the treatment of multiple resistant plantar… Show more

“…ILI of PRP in plantar warts could be efficient and safe immunotherapy; this could be clarified by the fact that PLT express a lot of TLRs 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9 [19] . Upon stimulation, the TLRs increase the synthesis of INF and several cytokines as IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α, which after that trigger several immune cells with subsequent increase in the inflammatory process [20] .…”

“…Regarding the use of PRP therapy in warts, Abu El-Hamd and Aboeldahab [20] assessed the potential efficiency of PRP in the management of multiple resistant plane warts. CR was noticed in 20% after the 1 st session and 100% after the 2 nd session.…”

“…Both groups were comparable in terms of age, duration, and number of warts. According to recent studies, treatment of plane warts is challenging and they are often difficult to clear 12,13 . There are multiple methods used for treating plane warts in published studies, so we decided to compare our treatment outcomes of plane warts with outcomes of other studies.…”

“…Warts (verrucae) are very common benign skin tumors affecting both sexes and all ages 1 . Plantar warts, affecting the plantar surfaces of the feet, represent about 30% of all cutaneous warts 2 with an annual incidence of about 14%. They are commonly associated with human papilloma virus (HPV) types 1, 2, 4, 10, 27, and 57 3 .…”
