A Case Report of Behcet's Disease With Thromboses in the Superior Vena Cava and External Iliac Vein

Abstract: Behcet's disease (BD), also known as Behcet's syndrome, is a rare, chronic, autoimmune disorder of unknown origin. Its manifestations are thought to be caused by vasculitis, resulting in damage to blood vessels of all sizes throughout the body. We report a 25-year-old Pakistani male who is sexually active and presents with a one-year history of shortness of breath, cough, exertional dyspnea, and neck and facial swelling. “…SVC thrombosis in BD can be associated with several symptoms and manifestations, such as iliac vein thrombosis or cardiomyopathy. A case report by Tadeu Ferreira de Paiva Jr. described an SVC syndrome without evidence of thrombosis; the lumen reduction was due to a thickening of the vessel wall, probably caused by inflammatory phenomena [ 4 , 68 , 69 , 70 ]. In another case reported by Harman, an SVC thrombosis was due to extrinsic compression by mediastinal fibrosis [ 71 ].…”

“…Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are utilized for pain control. Anticoagulation is generally commenced in the presence of thrombosis [16][17][18]. Evidence suggests immunosuppression alone might be enough for the treatment of venous thrombosis [19,20].…”

“…Mucocutaneous, ocular, and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are its frequent manifestations. The medical literature shows that this disease can manifest as a wide array of signs and symptoms involving several bodily organs and systems, which may include skin, genital, ocular, and neurological, in addition to other systems [1]. This case study brings into light a particular case of ocular involvement, showing right retinal detachment (RD) with a full-thickness macular hole (FTMH), which is a rare manifestation of BD.…”
