A case study of phantom omni force feedback device for virtual product design

Abstract: Research towards a methodology which helps designers/engineers in conceptualizing, facilitating participatory Design and validating products during designing and development process becoming more important with the aim of reducing the lengthy process and errors that crops up during the process. In this kind of situation it is felt that Virtual Reality-Haptic is among the solutions to cater repeated physical prototyping as well as for rapid prototyping and reduces related cost. This integrated system of virtual… Show more

“…The collision information between the virtual cursor and the virtual brain model is transmitted to the haptic device through the serial interface, driving the motor to generate torque, and finally acting on the end handle. 21 Therefore, the trainer operates the haptic device to control the virtual surgical instrument and feel haptic feedback. The Side-Distance is less affected by the curvature of the scalp due to the small distance from the midline of the brain.…”

“…Methods of sharing product representations over the virtual environment and a number of CAD-integrated shared workspaces have been presented in the scientific literature for distributed design review [70,71]. Other relevant studies include virtual and augmented reality, haptics working principles and their advantage towards product evaluation [72,73], web 3D-based collaborative design research [74], etc.…”
