“…The use of chemical compounds in radiation therapy is an obvious strategy for improving therapeutic outcomes [ 11 ]. However, due to their inherent toxicity and high cost, most studied synthetic radioactive protective compounds are underutilized clinically [ 12 ]. Therefore, for radiation testicular injury, there is an urgent need for highly effective radiation protective agents with fewer side effects.…”

“…Hydrogen-rich saline has potential as a novel radiation countermeasure without known toxic side effects; however, its narrow protective time frame (5 min) before radiation has restricted further applications [ 28 ]. Other reported herbal medicines with radioprotective effects need repeated administration [ 29 , 30 ], which may reduce patient compliance and cannot be used in nuclear emergency rescue. Our study clearly shows that a single dose of DMSO within a short period of time before radiation (1 h) is effective at promoting spermatogenesis and reducing the abnormal percentage of sperm even 120 days after exposure.…”

“…Unlike the previously published sources entitled "A Chinese herbal prescription Yiqi Jiedu decoction attenuates irradiation induced testis injury in mice" [11], the innovation of this article is mainly reflected in the following aspects. Firstly, different from the previously published articles, the frequency of irradiation is different.…”

“…Recently, it has been reported that the main components of herbs in YQJD decoction have a certain antiradiation effect in animal models [8][9][10]. A previous study has shown that YQJD decoction attenuated irradiation-induced testis injury in mice and its potential mechanism was related to the TLR5 signaling pathway on the 7th day after irradiation [11]. Moreover, YQJD decoction could also increase SOD activity [12], reduce the content of TNF-α [13], and alleviate the radiation-induced peripheral blood cytopenia [14].…”
