“…Within this context, polar circumbinary discs are of particular interest since we have shown they form stable and prominent dusty clumps (e50-i90 and e75-i90). Theoretical models first predicted the existence of this kind of polar discs (Aly et al 2015;Martin & Lubow 2017;Zanazzi & Lai 2018;Lubow & Martin 2018), as the one very recently discovered in HD 98800 by Kennedy et al (2019). It seems reasonable to think that planets will eventually form in these polar circumbinary discs.…”

“…Statistical studies of discs around PMS binaries have not generally included systems with a 1 au since PMS multiplicity surveys at such close separations are highly incomplete; we note, however, that at least several PMS binaries with a 1 au are known to have high submillimetre fluxes (e.g. Mathieu et al 1995Mathieu et al , 1997Kennedy et al 2019). Thus, it is not known whether protoplanetary disc properties in a 1 au binaries are significantly different to those in a 100 au binaries, and the reason for the lower debris disc incidence that we find in close binaries is not clear.…”

“…This is due to the coupled effect of nodal libration (Doolin & Blundell 2011) and gas damping in the circumbinary disc (Aly et al 2015;Martin & Lubow 2017;Zanazzi & Lai 2018;Cuello & Giuppone 2019). It is worth noting that the first polar circumbinary disc has been recently reported by Kennedy et al (2019).…”
