A clinical history of Zincum metallicum: homeopathic pathogenetic trials and case reports

Abstract: In the present study, we investigated the experimental basis for the indications of homeopathic drug Zincum metallicum. The current body of knowledge about Zinc met has a core composed of pathogenetic and clinical data collected in the 19th century surrounded by layers of clinical observations reported over time. In the description, we prioritized poorly known sources, especially the ones that were never translated from the original German. We also performed quantitative and statistical analysis of repertory d… Show more

“…25 For this reason, we chose to elucidate cell mechanisms of two homeopathic medicines used for treatment of chronic infections: Silicea terra (Sil, prepared from pure flint) [26][27][28] and Zincum metallicum (Zinc, metallic zinc), 29 which present in the respective materia medica some features seen in diseases caused by bacteria of the genus Mycobacterium, such as necrotic and persistent lesions and excoriation with persistent scab. 28,30 Several biological and physical-chemical aspects of Zinc were recently elucidated in a multi-center study, [29][30][31][32][33] including effects on macrophage activity in vitro, such as fine modulation of hydrogen peroxide and cytokine synthesis. 20,33 In turn, Sil was associated with increased production of platelet-activating factor by activated macrophages.…”
