A club convergence analysis of financial integration: cross-country evidence

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the club convergence of Financial integration (FI) in the case of 60 countries from 1970 to 2015. FI plays a vital role in economic growth through sharing the risk between countries, cross-border capital association, investment and financial information. “…The analysis of the coefficient of variation (CV) which is calculated by dividing the mean of relevant scores by the standard deviation of globalization scores of corridor countries gives the answer to the question of 'convergence'. For instance, Akram and his colleagues concluded in their analyses on the status of financial integration of 60 countries that they have an increasing coefficient of variation over the years which means different transition paths (Akram et al, 2023). Because convergence is impossible without similar, and the same transition path within a group of countries, this article sees the CV analysis as sufficient to make the convergence analysis for BRI corridors.…”

“…In empirical research, the concept of club convergence has gained much attention. It has been widely applied to income, productivity, health and public expenditure, energy, environment, labour income, stock and bond markets, etc., in recent years (Kim et al, 2006;Herrerias et al, 2017;Akram and Rath, 2022;Akram et al, 2023). Additionally, Narayan (2006Narayan ( , 2007 and Abbott et al (2012) extended the convergence literature by investigating the tourism market convergence in case of Australia, Fiji and Turkey, respectively.…”
