A Combination of Resveratrol and Curcumin is Effective Against Aluminum Chloride-Induced Neuroinflammation in Rats

Abstract: The present study clearly indicates the synergistic and therapeutic effect of a  resveratrol-curcumin combination. We also show that both compounds exert beneficial effect either cooperatively or through differential molecular mechanisms in counteracting aluminum-induced neuroinflammation.

“…Although different reports have discussed the neuroprotective effect of PB, EGCG, and SF against brain-induced toxicity [52,53,54], there is no documented work on the effect of their combination. Our results are in agreement with other papers demonstrating the synergistic protective effect of different combinations of natural compounds against neurodegeneration [55,56,57]. In general, the superior protection of co-treatments compared to the single treatments could be probably ascribed to the concurrent modulation of different molecular targets involved in the pathogenesis and progression of these multi-factorial diseases.…”

“…Both the endonuclease and transcription factor binding activities of APE1/Ref-1 result in increased resilience of cells to proapoptotic stimuli (reviewed in [11]). Resveratrol (RESV), a naturally occurring polyphenolic compound found in red wine and grapes, reportedly affects the redox activity of APE1/Ref-1 [12][13][14][15]. RESV was shown to inhibit the redox and endonuclease activities of APE1/Ref-1 in in vitro assays.…”

“…Similarly, the study analyzed the effect of a combination of Turmeric 500mg/day + Resveratrol at 500 mg/day on the percentage of bone mass of CKD patients on hemodialysis. Amira Zaky et al, have demonstrated that the synergistic and therapeutic effects of resveratrol–curcumin combination, also show that both compounds exert beneficial effect either cooperatively or through differential molecular mechanisms in counteracting aluminum-induced neuroinflammation 38…”
