A Compact CSRR-Enabled UWB Diversity Antenna

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to introduce a compact Ultra-Wideband (UWB) diversity antenna with a very low Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC). The design employs a hybrid isolation enhancing and miniaturization technique. The antenna consists of two counter facing monopoles, and is miniaturized by using not only inverted-L stubs but also a Complementary Split Ring Resonator (CSRR) on the ground plane. The added components enhance isolation and enable tighter packing of the antennas. The result is a very co… Show more

“…Initially, a stepped cut rectangular shape UWB patch radiator was designed [13], then it is modified to triangular shape with two-step cut in the lower edge of the radiator to achieve a wide-band matching. The proposed design is somewhat similar to [14].F-Shaped stub is inserted on the ground plane for reduction of mutual coupling and to increases the isolation between the antenna elements. The design of the proposed antenna and the design parameters are shown in Figure.1 and the antenna dimensions are mentioned in Table 1.…”

“…The envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) is an important constraint to analyze the diversity characteristics of a wideband MIMO antenna [21][22][23]. It is evaluated with the help of S-parameters as given in [13,21]:…”

“…Among these design methods, one of them is to apply a stepped structure, such as gradient or cambered shapes to obtain the UWB antenna [14]. These UWB-MIMO antennas with stepped slots on the ground have already been presented [15][16][17][18]. However, there is interference between the UWB and conventional narrow-band systems.…”
