A Comparative Study of Cadmium Ion‐Selective Electrodes with Solid and Liquid Inner Contact

Abstract: A comparative study was performed between three types of cadmium ion selective electrodes: solid contact electrode containing membrane doped with ionic liquid: 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, solid contact electrode containing membrane doped with traditional lipophilic additive potassium tetrakis (p-chlorophenyl) borate (KTpClB) and the classical cadmium-ion selective electrode with internal filling solution. The basic analytical parameters of the studied electrodes, such as the slope characteristic, the… Show more

“…In our previous papers, we demonstrated that the properties of solid-contact electrodes, such as the detection limit and selectivity also depend on the procedure used for electrode conditioning (Wardak, 2012b;Wardak, 2014Wardak, , 2015. Therefore the next step of the study was the optimization of cobalt concentration in the conditioning solution.…”

“…Among different types of ISEs, special attention was focused on ionselective electrodes with polymer membrane without the internal electrolyte, called Solid Contact Ion-selective Electrodes (SCISEs). These electrodes have many advantages over their classical equivalents containing an internal solution (Wardak 2012). The lack of the internal solution enables construction of electrodes which can have any shape and much smaller sizes, so consequently their production costs can be reduced.…”

“…For instance, Wardak (124,125) applied ILs as a solid contact in ISEs to study the effect of three different alkyl chains situated on the methylimidazolium cation, while keeping the anion constant (Cl À ). The author observed that the substituents in the imidazolium ring affected the limit of detection (LOD) of the sensors and the best results were obtained with 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium.…”
