A Comparative Study of Laser Doppler Vibrometers for Vibration Measurements on Pavement Materials

Abstract: A laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) is a noncontact optical measurement device to measure the vibration velocities of particular points on the surface of an object. Even though LDV has become more popular in road engineering in recent years, their signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is strongly dependent on light scattering properties of the surface which, in some cases, needs to be properly conditioned. SNR is the main limitation in LDV instrumentation when measuring on low diffusive surfaces like pavements; therefore, … Show more

“…After the preparation of beams B1 to B3, their front sides were painted by the white spray paint (Ardrox ® 9D1B aerosol by Chemetall, Frankfurt am Main, Germany) to improve the LDV measurement quality as suggested in the literature [19]. Next, the specimens were suspended from a small frame built for the climate chamber of the Universal Testing Machine (UTM) using two screw eyes and fishing lines to simulate free-free conditions.…”

“…Érdekes megjegyezni, hogy Hasheminejad kutatócsapatának közelmúltban megjelent munkájában egy hagyományos hélium-neon (He -Ne) alapú LDV-t és a közelmúltban kifejlesztett infravörös lézeres regésmérőt hasonlítottak össze [52]. Különböző felületi viszonyok közt vizsgálva a lézerjelet megállapították, hogy a He-Ne LDV zajszintje magasabb, ha sötétebb, vagy rosszabb reflektivitású felületről (pl.…”
