A new naphthalene-sulfonamide (NS) derivative has been used as ionophore to construct the polyvinylchloride-based lead (II) solid-contact (SC) coated graphite electrode modified with conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT/PSS). The lead-NS derivative complex shows 1:1 stoichiometry with the maximum stability constant of 5.75 as compared to other metal ions that is determined by sandwich membrane method. The proposed membrane morphology has been analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. The proposed lead (II) SC-PEDOT/PSScoated graphite electrode-1 (Pb(II) SC-PEDOT/PSS-CGE-1) shows the detection limit of 5.62 9 10 -8 M (56.2 nm) with Nernstian slope of 29.21 mV/decade within the pH range of 2.0-7.0 and exhibits small response time of\10 s. It has been used as indicator electrode for the potentiometric titration of lead (II) with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and successfully applied for the determination of lead (II) ions content in various environmental and ayurvedic medicines sample matrices with very good performance (0.999 correlation coefficients in the comparison against atomic absorption spectroscopy method).

The novel gel composite, based on the ground o f i o n i c l i q u i d ( 1 -b u t y l -3 -m e t h y l i m i d a z o l i u m hexafluorophosphate, BMIMPF 6 ) and titanium carbide (TiC) nanoparticles, was used to modify glassy carbon electrode and applied to the electrochemical determination of tryptophan (trp). The physical and electrochemical characterizations of the BMIMPF 6 -TiC gel modified electrode were studied in detail by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and differential pulse voltammetry methods. Due to the large specific surface area and strong adsorption property of TiC nanoparticles, as well as the good ionic conductivity and strong electrocatalytic property of BMIMPF 6 , the oxidation peak current of trp at BMIMPF 6 -TiC gel modified electrode showed good linear relation with its concentrations ranging from 0.50 to 30 μmol/L and 30 to 500 μmol/L, respectively. The detection limit was 0.053 μmol/L. More importantly, the BMIMPF 6 -TiC gel modified electrode had good antiinterference ability and can be successfully applied in the electrochemical determination of trp in real food samples.

1‐Pyrrolidine Dicarbodithioate Based Electrodes for Determination of Iron(III) in Lubrication Oil

The lipophillic ammonium salt of 1-pyrrolidine dicarbodithioic acid (PCDT) (I) was introduced as a new selective ionophore for an iron selective electrode. In addition, the effect of immobilization of 18-crown-6 (18CE6) (membrane type-II), on the electrode performance was discussed. The slope of the PCDT-based (I) electrode was (20 mV/decade). The linear concentration range was (10 À5 -10 À1 M) after one day doping. The detection limit for electrode type-(II) was (1.3 Â 10 À6 M). For membrane with only 18CE6 (type-III) the linear range and the detection limit were improved (10 À5 -10 À1 M and 3.2 Â 10 À6 M, respectively). The pH-range was between 5 -11 for type-II, and III electrodes, while it was 7 -11 for type-I electrode. Most of the common cations were tested for the evaluation of the electrode selectivity with correlation to the ionic radii of the tested cations. Among them only Ag þ and Pb 2þ were the real interference for type-III electrode. Application of using the electrode for the determination of iron in lubrication oil samples was performed with RSD (1.77 -2.7%) and (1.01 -2.3%) for type-II and III electrodes, respectively. The corresponding recovery ranges were (93.0 -99.9%) and (96.3 -100%). The obtained results were compared to those of an atomic absorption spectrophotometric method.
