Bullying is currently a national concern in Indonesia. Many of the country’s children and adolescents have taken their lives due to a lack of resilience in the face of bullying. However, some studies have revealed that victims can survive the adverse effects of bullying. This study aimed to analyze the roles of hope and sociodemographic characteristics in the resilience of bullied adolescents in Indonesia. The study used a cross-sectional design and selected 305 bullied high school students in Semarang as participants through purposive sampling. The Adolescent Resilience Scale and the Children’s Hope Scale were used to measure the participants’ resilience and hope. A multiple linear regression test was applied to analyze the influence of hope and sociodemographic characteristics on resilience. The results showed that gender (β = -0.149, p = 0.001) and hope (β = 0.571, p = 0.001) significantly influenced the resilience of the bullied adolescents. Working through schools’ health units, nurses should establish partnerships with stakeholders, such as school personnel and parents, to develop hope-based intervention programs aimed at enhancing the resilience of bullied adolescents. Abstrak Pengaruh Gender dan Harapan terhadap Resiliensi Remaja Korban Perundungan. Fenomena perundungan di Indonesia saat ini telah menjadi perhatian nasional. Banyak anak dan remaja yang bunuh diri karena tidak kuat menghadapi perundungan. Namun, penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa beberapa korban dapat bertahan dari dampak buruk perundungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran harapan dan karakteristik sosiodemografi terhadap resiliensi remaja korban perundungan di Indonesia. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian cross-sectional dengan 305 siswa SMA korban perundungan di Kota Semarang terlibat sebagai responden yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Kuesioner Adolescent Resilience Scale (ARS) dan Children's Hope Scale (CHS) digunakan untuk mengukur resiliensi dan harapan remaja korban perundungan. Uji regresi linier berganda digunakan untuk menganalisis pengaruh harapan dan karakteristik sosiodemografi terhadap resiliensi atau ketahanan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jenis kelamin (β = -0.149, p = 0.001) dan harapan (β = 0.571, p = 0.001) secara signifikan mempengaruhi resiliensi remaja korban perundungan. Perawat, melalui Unit Kesehatan Sekolah (UKS), perlu menjalin kemitraan dengan pemangku kepentingan seperti guru di sekolah dan para orang tua, guna mengembangkan program intervensi berbasis harapan yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan resiliensi remaja korban perundungan. Academic performance problems that are still rampant in various boarding schools are often triggered by students' lack of active participation and confidence in their academic abilities. This study aims to analyze the effect of academic self-efficacy on academic performance with student engagement as a mediator for students in Islamic boarding schools. The method in this study is quantitative research with an ex-post facto approach. The sample in this study was determined using multistage random sampling technique with a total of 308 student. The instruments used in this study were academic self-efficacy scale with dimensions of level, generality, and strength, student engagement scale with dimensions of emotional engagement, cognitive engagement, and behavioural engagement, and academic performance measured by referring to report card data. The data obtained were analysed quantitatively using the PROCESS v4.2 macro of the Hayes 4 model through the SPSS Version 25 application. The results of this study indicate that academic self-efficacy, student engagement, and academic performance of students in boarding schools are positively related, and student engagement acts as a mediator between academic self-efficacy and academic performance. Students with high self-efficacy are more confident in learning can solve problems more effectively and are more engaged in learning, thus improving academic achievement.

Background: Academic self-regulation, academic self-efficacy, and academic passion are crucial factors in medical students’ academic success. However, self-handicapping behaviors, such as procrastinating, making excuses, or setting unrealistic goals, can hinder these positive aspects of learning. This study explores how academic optimism mediates the relationships between self-regulation, self-efficacy, and passion in medical students prone to self-handicapping behaviors. Methods: This research adopted a descriptive, correlational design to investigate the interrelationships between the variables in a structural equation modeling (SEM) framework. The target population encompassed all undergraduate medical students with self-handicapping behaviors enrolled at Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences in 2022. A purposive sampling strategy yielded a sample of 204 medical students who completed self-report questionnaires assessing the aforementioned constructs. SEM analysis was conducted to test the hypothesized model, with bootstrapping procedures employed to evaluate indirect effects. Results: Academic self-regulation and optimism were directly associated with academic passion (P<0.001), while self-efficacy did not show a direct effect. Both self-regulation and self-efficacy indirectly influenced passion in medical students with self-handicapping behaviors through academic optimism (P<0.01). Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of fostering not only academic self-regulation skills but also academic optimism among students with self-handicapping behaviors. Interventions that promote positive academic expectations could be particularly beneficial in promoting academic passion even in the absence of a direct effect from self-efficacy.
