A comparative study on morphology, mineral and vitamin compositions of two variants of Hibiscus sabdariffa (L.)

Abstract: Morphological, mineral and vitamin compositions of leaves and seeds of two varieties of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. were evaluated using standard techniques and compared. Analysis of variance was employed in data analyses. Morphological study showed no significant difference in their habit, structure and phyllotaxy but varied mostly in sizes and colour. The red variety had a greater leaf area (94.25±0.310cm 2) and petiole length (6.50±0.620cm) than the green variety, whose leaf area and petiole length are 53.95±0.4… Show more

“…that the nutritional quality of DPSB products can consequently be enhanced. Improvement of the vitamin contents of DPSB following the incorporation of 1 per cent roselle flowers and 1 per cent pollen or a higher concentration of roselle flowers may have been a result of high levels of these vitamins in the pollen grains (Hassan, 2011) and roselle flowers (Ilodibia et al, 2019;Ismail et al, 2008). In the present study, fortification of date palm spathe drinks with a combination of roselle flowers and date palm pollen grains generally significantly improved the vitamin contents and thus such fortifications are recommended.…”
