A comparison among eight different techniques to achieve an optimum estimation of electrical grounding parameters in two-layered earth

Abstract: This paper intends t o compare t h e performance used t o f i n d t h e e l e c t r i c a l grounding parameters o f a two-layered e a r t h ( r e s i s t i v i t i e s and thickness) evaluated a t p o i n t P o r i n step p. corresponding t o a s p e c i f i c mathematical model. Parameter estimation i s c a r r i e d o u t -i n such a way as t o x -xp get an optimum f i t t i n g between the s e t of r e s i s t i v i t y F(x)

“…Neste trabalho o autor aplica várias técnicas de otimização em alguns problemas de estratificação. Para o caso aqui apresentado, os resultados obtidos em [14] utilizou a First Order Gradient Technique (FOGT), este trabalho considera a estratificação do solo em 2-camadas.…”

“…The transmission lines are divided into regions due to their different characteristics through their length with special attention to be paid to the monthly meteorological conditions of each geographic region and to the monthly tower footing resistance of each region of the analysed transmission line. The monthly tower footing resistance is easily estimated using either the measured, during construction tower footing resistance or the soil resistivity parameters and the grounding system's geometric characteristics [19][20][21]. The use of the monthly tower footing resistance in the calculations intends in a more accurate assessment of the lightning performance, since the variation of this parameter is significant during the year.…”

“…This feature also acts as a provider of variable-length expressions. Other techniques (such as Gramatical Evolution (GE) [15] or Linear Genetic Programming (LGP) [5]) employ special genetic operators (which insert or remove chromosome parts) to achieve such a complex functionality.…”
