Local anesthetic is one of the major ways to obtain satisfactory anesthesia in majority of plastic surgical procedures. These procedures include hand surgery, face surgery, hair transplant, eyelids surgery, and nose surgery. The administration of painless anesthesia is the ultimate goal. There are multiple associated factors, and many variables play a vital role. The needle gauge, speed of injection, chemical composition of anesthetic agent, temperature, and anatomical areas will affect the pain associated with local anesthesia administration. The pain experienced during local anesthesia administration has two components. 1 The first component is the pain felt by the physical penetration of skin by the needle. It is dependent on needle caliber and anatomical area structure.
