Keywords: pig, transferrin, polymorphism, partial deficiency In the transferrin system of pigs eight variants were detected by starch gel electrophoresis -I, A, B, D, D', E and X. Variants A, B and C are common and occur both in domestic as well as in some wild pigs; variant D was found in Bohemian Large White and Pfajfer breeds (Schroffel 1966;Hesselholt 1969) and E in Hampshire breed (Baker 1968); variant I was observed in wild pigs, crosses of wild and domestic pigs, and also in Hungarian Large White (Glasnak et al 1976;Skladanowska et al 1979;PBlovics et al 1982;Stratil et al 1982); variant D' was detected only in native Bangladeshi pigs (Kurosawa et al 1987), and variant X was found only in Japanese wild pigs (Kurosawa and Tanaka 1988).…”
