A Comparison Study of Chaihu Shugan San and Fluoxetine on Antidepression and Regulating Blood Rheology Effects with Chronic Restrained Stress Rats

Abstract: Chaihu Shugan San (CHSGS) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula that is often used in clinical practice to treat live Qi stagnation syndrome and depression. Fluoxetine is one of the commonly used drugs for the clinical treatment of depression. This study involved a comparison of CHSGS and fluoxetine on antidepression and regulating blood rheology effects with chronic restraint stress- (CRS-) induced depression rat models. Rats were induced depression models by CRS for 4 weeks. Upon successful induction of de… Show more

“…Both of them are used clinically to improve depressive mood caused by different reasons, and antidepressant effects have been shown in the chronic restraint stress induced depression model in Chaihu Shugan San. 15 According to previous studies, CREOs, and their main component of limonene, can improve depressive behavior, possibly by restoring the expression of hippocampal BDNF in chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) induced mice. 16 It means that CREOs have antidepressant effects and can prevent the occurrence of depression.…”

“…Additionally, research suggests that CSS not only displays antidepressant effects in common rodent models of depression, including chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) ( Liu et al, 2018 ) or combined social isolation ( Zhang et al, 2011a ), chronic restraint stress (CRS) ( Qian et al, 2020 ) or combined social isolation ( Lijuan et al, 2012 ), and LPS-induced depression model ( Xuesong et al, 2023 ).…”
