A Comprehensive Method for Quality Evaluation of Houttuyniae Herba by a Single Standard to Determine Multi-components, Fingerprint and HPTLC Method

Abstract: A method of quality evaluation by a single standard to determine multi-components (SSDMC), fingerprint and highperformance thin layer-chromatography (HPTLC) was developed for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and validated with dry Houttuyniae Herba (HH). In quantitative analysis, an SSDMC method involving nine components has been established with the desirable linearity (r 2 ≥ 0.9998), precision (RSD < 2.7%), accuracy (97.4 -103.1%) and ruggedness. Compared with the results obtained using the external stand… Show more

“…It has been used in several official standards such as ChP, European Pharmacopoeia (EP) [39] , and the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) [40] . It has also been widely used in studies involving multi-components determination of Ganoderma lucidum [41] , honeysuckle [42] , rhubarb [43] , Euphorbia kansui [44] , Semen oroxyli [45] , Cinnamomi ramulus [46] , Alisma orientale [47] , Houttuyniae herba [48] , notoginseng [49] , Mahoniae caulis [50] , and other medicinal herbs, which has a good application prospect.…”

“…In recent years, the quality of herbal medicine as well as their related products have been evaluated adopting chromatographic fingerprinting which emphasizes the characteristics of overall sample composition [8][9][10]. Among the many techniques used to characterize chemical profiles including Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) [11][12][13], mass spectrometry (MS) [14][15][16], nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) [17][18][19], gas chromatography (GC) [20][21][22], high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) [23][24][25] and thin-layer chromatography (TLC) [26][27][28], ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) [29][30][31] and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) [32][33][34] are the most popularly used approaches used for fingerprinting due to its high sensitivity, high selectivity and low cost [35,36].…”

“…It makes the multicomponent quality evaluation of natural products easier as well as more cost-effective [ 11 ]. At present, the QAMS method has been widely used in the quality control research of foods, including Rhizoma Paridis [ 11 ], oolong tea [ 12 ], coffee beans [ 13 ], Houttuyniae Herba [ 14 ], and Ilex Kudingcha C. J. Tseng [ 15 ], greatly alleviating the shortage of reference materials and high purchase cost, as well as reducing the workload.…”
