A Comprehensive Vehicle Stability Assessment System Based on Enabling Tire Force Estimation

Abstract: This paper presents an enabling comprehensive vehicle stability assessment system covering vehicle longitudinal, yaw and roll stability. First, the longitudinal, lateral and vertical tire forces are separately estimated using the strong tracking unscented Kalman filter and the conventional Kalman filter based on low-cost on-board sensors. Then, a comprehensive vehicle longitudinal, yaw and roll stability space is established by utilizing the normalized tire friction ellipse and the Load Transfer Ratio value. F… Show more

“…Stability indicator is important for preventing tractor from rollover in the working process, it is the base of the rollover warning and active anti-rollover control. Different stability indicator design methods have been presented, such as Ding et al proposed a comprehensive stability assessment scheme using tire fore estimation and load transfer ration value [24]. Song et al proposed a simplified LTR indicator [25].…”

“…Yuan et al [18] compared a nonlinear state observer based on adaptive cubature Kalman filter with three commonly used observers in the estimation accuracy of fuel cell system internal states and analysed the performance of the algorithms. Ding et al [19] utilized the strong tracking unscented Kalman filter (UKF) and the conventional Kalman filter to estimate the longitudinal, lateral and vertical tire forces based on signals from low-cost on-board sensors for stability control. Asl et al [20] originally proposed a new adaptive Kalman filter to obtain a more precise estimation for a servo-hydraulic system.…”

“…To track the arbitrarily curved path in the presence of wheel slippage, Chen et al [ 32 ] developed a path tracking controller based on second order sliding mode control and finite time disturbance observer technique. In particular, some control methods for road vehicles in the case of tire sideslip can be referenced to counter this problem [ 33 35 ].…”
