The use of online travel agency (OTA) in the sphere of tourism and hospitality industry is steadily rising along with digitalization. The aim of the investigation is to explore the relationship between the elements of trustworthiness (perceived ability, perceived benevolence, and perceived integrity) and the use of online travel agencies. In this study, a purposive sampling technique was used to collect data from the 292 clients of online travel agencies in Bangladesh. With the application of SPSS version 24 and AMOS version 26, structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to examine the research model. The findings indicate that all three elements of trustworthiness - perceived ability, perceived benevolence, and perceived integrity positively influence tourists to use online travel agencies. It scaled a new development in social exchange theory (SET) by introducing the elements of trustworthiness in the context of online travel agencies (OTAs). The present study's findings have important and useful ramifications for online travel service providers, online service agents, and managers of various tourism platforms. They should develop and put into practice strategies to manage trustworthiness across various levels of online travel services to achieve improved responses from travelers.

Consuming Less as a Rational Choice: A Review of Applied Social Exchange Theory in Topical Research on Sustainable Consumption

Along with a fast expansion in volume, research on sustainable consumption is confounded with inconsistencies in definitions and terminology. For a better categorization and thus utilization of the knowledge already accumulated in the field, a synthetic approach outlining conceptual differences and commonalities within the multitude of research appears useful. Contributing to this conceptual approach, this article pursues the role of the paradigm of rational choice in topical (2019 – 2023) research on sustainable consumption. By way of a theory-based review, the particular areas of sustainable consumption research in which social exchange is applied are scrutinized, highlighting specific structures and inclinations in terms of the history of ideas. The findings point out a preference towards the sociological take on social exchange theory (as opposed to the socio-psychological) and demonstrate that the application of social exchange theory is significant particular in research on sharing economy. On the other hand, no application of social exchange theory in areas of sustainable consumption like minimalism, downshifting or voluntary simplicity could be documented.

This research explores the pivotal role of social exchange in shaping sustainable partnerships between vegetable farmers and customers in Dusun Wayari. Within the framework of a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews as the research method, this study identifies two primary dimensions of social relations within the vegetable agribusiness system in Dusun Wayari: the associative dimension and the disassociative dimension. The research findings indicate that social exchange plays a central role in establishing close relationships between vegetable farmers and customers. During the process of ordering and harvesting vegetables, the interdependence between farmers and customers serves as a strong foundation for mutually beneficial social relations. Farmers provide high-quality products, while customers offer financial support and long-term commitment. This study underscores that social relations based on social exchange play a key role in creating sustainable partnerships in the vegetable agribusiness. In addition to benefiting farmers and customers, these relations also contribute to the collective well-being within the local community. Therefore, a deeper understanding of social relations within this agribusiness system has the potential to provide valuable insights and practical guidance for the development of sustainable business models in agriculture and other local business sectors.
